Happy New Year!
Often when January rolls around again we women turn to thoughts of self improvement. Going to the gym ascends to #1 on the priority list, healthy snacking becomes a new, positive option, & therefore bad habits are gradually replaced by better ones and on and on. Most often, self improvement starts with a change in the way we think resulting in the desired physical changes.
I believe that easily achievable, small changes on the outside can affect change by keeping you on that positive track.
- A quick glance in the mirror as you rush through the day can really be uplifting when you see that indeed, the dark circles that have always bothered you have been lessened and improved with a new concealer you finally tried. I loveBobbi Brown’s miraculous correctors and concealers. You can even chat with an artist while you’re online if you have questions or need help.
- A brightening shade of lipstick and gloss can brighten up your face and your mood.
- A blue/red or blue based pink lipstick makes your teeth automatically look whiter. Wearing a shade like this can help you get through the weeks it takes for those Crest White strips to kick in! Here’s an informative piece about one woman’s journey through the daunting world of red lipsticks.
- Have you ever tried filling in your eye brows? Your eyebrows frame your face. Subtly filling them in with a shadow and brush highlights your eyes and subtly transforms your face.
- Have you recently given up smoking and want to get rid of that dull cast to your skin? Or how about sun spots and freckles that you’ve been wishing would disappear? Get to the makeup counter right now. The new brightening products do really work & can make your skin look years younger. Remember to look for products containing sunscreen.
- Lifeless locks? Next time you go to your hair stylist why not try highlights? They can add shine and body to your hair as well as a glow to your face.
So what has been bothering you about your beauty routine? I’ll bet you can fix them more easily than you think.
Most concerns can very easily be remedied with the help of a makeup artist like me or by talking to an aesthetician.
What do you have to lose?
It’s worth a try…and don’t forget that makeup washes off!

Aqua Lip Waterproof Lipliner Pencil Rosewood. $17 at Sephora
Changing the color you line your lips with will instantly update your look. If you’ve been wearing those amazing brights this summer, change your lip pencil to a darker hue and work it into the brighter lipstick to give it a darker or dirtier cast — this will mute it and make it fall-wearable.
I just found some brilliant Makeup Forever waterproof lip liners at Sephora. They’re worth a try, and stay on all day, and help you have a worry free wedding day. $17
Or, try Clinique Quickliner for Lips in Crushed Berry or Bamboo, $14.

The warmest reds
Scarlet Season: Orange -Based Reds Round-up
I’m surprised (and quite happy about it!) that we covered nearly as many orange-based reds as blue-based reds. I just feel like we ended up with a very well-rounded bunch of reds we were able to feature over the past three months, which is such a good thing. It means I was able to tested out numerous shades and variations, but it also means that everyone was able to see that variety, too!
I’m not too keen on orange-reds on myself, but my favorites on myself were Dolce & Gabbana Sheer, Guerlain Geisha, La Prairie Rouge Clair, MAC Rockocco, and Urban Decay Revolution. My absolute favorites in terms of formula and application overall (whether or not I liked it on me) were Giorgio Armani #401, Chanel Coromandel, Dolce & Gabbana Fire, La Prairie Rouge Clair, and Urban Decay Revolution–they just applied effortlessly and looked it.
Which were your favorites?
Row 1: Giorgio Armani #401 Rouge d’Armani Lipstick ($30.00), Cargo Cherry Bliss Lipstick ($20.00), Chanel Audace Rouge Allure Lipstick ($30.00)
Row 2: Chanel Coromandel Rouge Allure Laque ($32.00), ($30.00), Dolce & Gabbana Fire LipstickDolce & Gabbana Sheer Lipstick ($30.00)
Row 3: Guerlain Geisha Lipstick ($45.00), Illamasqua Encounter Lipstick ($20.00), Lancome Absolute Rouge Lipstick ($29.00)
Row 4: Lancome Red and Sensual Java Lipstick ($25.00), Lancome Retro Rouge Lipstick ($29.00), La Prairie Rouge Clair Lipstick ($55.00)
Row 5: MAC Rockocco Lipstick ($14.00), Rimmel Alarm Lipstick ($5.19), Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick ($22.00)

The end of October is fast approaching which means National Breast Cancer Awareness Month is coming to a close as well. With that in mind, here’s a great deal Nordstrom is offering online only: get a free full-size Sparkle Eyeshadow in “Mica” ($24 retail) when you purchase $75 of Bobbi Brown makeup. Here’s an easy way (as if you needed it) to rack up a quick $40 towards your product total and it’s for a good cause: Snap up Bobbi’s “Pink Ribbon” lip duo. “In support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Bobbi has created a beautiful lip set featuring an exclusive new shade of Creamy Lip Color and a limited-edition Glitter Lip Balm. To create added awareness of this special cause, the Pink Ribbon logo has been screened on the Glitter Lip Balm package. Set comes in a pink carton. Included shades: Blush Pink Creamy Lip Color and Pink Crystal Glitter Lip Balm”. And the best part is that your purchase contributes to Bobbi’s donation to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
p.s. The Sparkle Shadows are very pretty and will add a subtle shimmery sparkle to your face. I like them better than her Metallic Shadows which can be more obvious. Remember that overt metallics in your makeup choices tend to reflect the camera’s flash which doesn’t translate well to photos.
